The GiftI encounter a distant coherence
echoed in the unabashed revolution of planets,

in the durable lessons of rain and wind
stirring the wildest secrets.

Earth is rare they say—
an elegant possessor of water,

blue jewel between vast black holes,
variant of fiery transformations

diagramed on blurred light
from dim and ancient stars.

Elemental laws articulate
the breath of beginnings

confirmed long ago
in stones, birch-bark, juniper

and celebrate
a history older than Eve.
