Artwork by Zen Sutherlandto September, the purple asters
nodding emanations of stellar
oxygen. To the craze that threads

through every cell stacked in sepal,
stem and seed, not discontinuous
with my own design.

To oxygen, carbon, nitrogen,
intricate chains that speak cosmic desire
I have mistaken for my own voice.
