Constrained by Gravity

by Christine Emmert

Gomez's HamburgerThat dark matter that seeps
into the gravity of space
holds us enthralled
in anxious denial.

When apples tumbled on Newton's head
we knew we were held, ankle-bound,
to our own planet.

We did not understand other ropes
and grips
placed us there
among the stars forever.
