Riding the Sky

by Rich Pearl

A journey on a little horse
into uncharted territory;
wandering the cosmos,
sighting distant planets
and wayward comets
amidst the endless night.

Somewhere in my dreams,
high up in the sky,
I have walked the moon,
ridden on a stellar stallion,
bathed in the shimmer of stars
and seen the light
of a thousand dawns
that span an endless horizon.

Today I climbed the mountain,
set down my telescope,
adjusted the lens
and sought the unknown,
a vision of God's work --
Tiny Equuleus,
a small foal
in the vastness of space.
