Lupus

by Mary Cresswell

Do you still believe
tomorrow requires
stars smeared with ashes
from hungry fires?

I shall leave footprints
husky as wind
cold as glacial snouts
on your ice-kissed skin.

Huddled in the centre
fraught with wolves
we watch stars drag out the night
in long removes
